half term summary/ weekly journal

what i have learnt:
this half term i have learnt how to use Photoshop more efficiently through use in class working on the preliminary task
i have also learnt how to analyse pictures and or photos in more depth by taking pictures of our own at the angles that we want, but also in class through lessons on camera shots, lighting, setting ext...
thirdly i have learnt the conventions of magazines and why they are used to bring in their readers for example the sell lines of most magazines are story's orientated around their audiences
lastly i have learnt how to analyse a magazine efficiently through colour, font, main picture ext...

the challenges i have come across:
one of the challenges i have face over the half term  is not being able to use Photoshop as efficiently as i should which i improved as you can see from the paragraph above
another challenge i faced is understanding fully why magazines use certain conventions on their cover but after a few lessons and some individual research i came to an understanding
thirdly time keeping  really challenged me at the beginning but now i have a home work time table to keep me up to date with all tasks that are set to me

Overall i have learnt much and have overcame many challenges from my point of view it has been a productive half term

front cover and contents page plan

i plan for my front cover to be some what like this to have the obvious main cover photo i the middle with my masthead on top with the sell lines surrounding the main cover photo with the barcode under the left third where the some what more important stories would be
i am going to use this layout because it is simple and has shown past success in other magazines lastly i picked this layout because i can have more than one big stories, one on each side
i plan for my contents page to be like this but only with two pictures on the right side next to their relevant stories
i chose this because i think it is going to be relevant to have more than one picture on the contents page

raw photo explination

I choose this picture because it has a good angle and it is complimented by the light coming from the top right of the picture and also it can be used in a certain scenario of a play and or musical  which I am planing to implement in to the contents page of the school mag
i have picked this picture because it shows that school must go on in the midst of detailed building work and the building of the new building I also picked the picture because of the angle  it shows the student getting on with her work  while building work is going on

i plan on using this picture  for the main story on the content's page to show that their is an emptiness with in the school ans i plan for the story to be about more and more students bunking school

conventions and analysis of magazines

conventions:
Mast head (name of the magazine)
Font (type of text)
Main image (The main attraction to the magazine)
Left third (where you usually have most of your story's and your bar code)
Main cover lines (the sell line linked with the main image)
Sell line (short insights in to the story's in the magazine)

analysis of two magazines:

They both have very different colours as they represent different things vibe has black to show attitude and power as they represent a rap magazine based of attitude and powerful lyrics and NME has very light calm colours to show calmness and tranquility as their cover photo is Florence from Florence and the machine which plays quite light music

The cover line of vibe is very controversial ‘drake hip-hops new religion’ it is controversial because it says the new music following has become so intense it is like a religion  The cover line of NME ‘Florence on ghosts. Amy Winehouse and her fear of messing up’ this shows a well known indie artist such as Florence to get her fans reading

Vibe’s picture shows drake a very popular rap artist displaying attitude with his pose and clothes as his t-shirt says unstoppable to show that he is the main attraction for rappers everywhere and cannot be stopped by any one else however NME’s pictures shows popular indie artist Florence in a very submissive pose and light stylish clothes to show that she is a fragile and light person which will appeal to the audience of the magazine.

Vibe uses very bold fonts to show power once again and never changes font as it is aimed at teenagers and young adult which are stereotyped to be infatuated with power  whereas NME uses and light font and italics to make it look nice and pretty to appeal to the fans of soft rock and fans of Florence and the machine, both achieve a positive reaction from their respective audiences.

mastehead reasearch

vibe and NME where my main masthead research points as they have the type of masthead that i needed be as they can both be aimed at an audience of late teens but can also appeal to adults with their simplistic mastheads as you can see my masthead 6FR is very similar to vibe and NME in style and audience they are trying to reach

titles and mastheads

titles:
Learners Digest
Regent Reviewer
6th form scandal
6FR
I picked these titles because from my audience research the readers that i am aiming form are usually only interested in images so the title needs to be one that can be on par with the picture for attention and i finally decided on 6FR as i can appeal to sixth formers and is simplistic
Mast Heads:

I have chosen 6FR as my title because it is not formal and can be aimed at 6th formers with the feeling of school as soon as they look at it Even though it is about school but can be taken seriously enough to be a magazine about school

I have chosen the third mastehead because it can easily appeal to my target audience by being informal but not too immature to be a school magazine in their late teens. i also chose it because i can do alot with it, for example I can play around with the conventions and colour but i can also put it in both contexts informal and formal which i cant do with my other masteheads. lastly I used it because it is bold which will put across a more powerful image for the cover of the magazine
